Well here goes. I hate to admit it but this is seriously (seriously!) my first ever blog post. I'll give you all a second to recover from your shock and then I'm going to dive right in. Ready? Ok!
When I started thinking about what my first blog post was going to be about and how nervous I was to write something--which is odd because I'm an English Major AND a Gemini and my friends can attest to my proficiency in gabbing--my initial thought was to write something to do with headpieces or weddings or bridal trends. But then I thought perhaps, before I get into all of that, I would write about beginnings. I would write about beginnings because, quite frankly, where would we all be without beginnings? This is the beginning of my hopefully long journey as the blog voice of Frilly Bits; our wonderful little business had it's own great beginning (more on that later) and finally; our business wouldn't really be anywhere without the celebration of love and new beginnings.
Over the years many people have asked us how Frilly Bits began. It's pretty simple really...my mom and I had always wanted to go into business together, and we naturally had always gravitated toward the wedding industry. I mean, what girl DOESN'T want an excuse to talk weddings, gush over wedding gowns, buy wedding magazines, and be around happy brides as much as possible? For a while, however, we couldn't quite figure out where we could fit in. Then one day, as I sat in a bridal shop with my best friend as she tried on wedding gowns, she mentioned that she wanted a headpiece, like the ones I was always wearing when I dressed up. She had quickly ruled out all of the options at the bridal shop when suddenly I had an idea. Having always been creative and artistically inclined, I offered to make Amy a custom headpiece. At the time I didn't quite have any idea what I was going to make her or how, but I knew I would figure it out! On the day of the wedding, as we all sat in the hair salon getting ready, the stylist who had just nestled Amy's custom headpiece into her gorgeous updo said "Oh my gosh, Amy, where did you get this beautiful hair flower?" (that's my beautiful friend pictured below)
When Amy pointed to me and said I had made it, the Stylist asked for my card and I knew that was it. The next day I pitched my idea to my mom and thus began Frilly Bits! That was nearly five years ago and it's amazing when I look back to some of our original headpiece designs and realize how far we've come. Trends and styles have changed over the years but the one that remains the same is how much we love to be a part of a couple's special day! Which brings me to our final beginning...
Love. There is nothing better than getting to be a part of the incredible day in which a beautiful couple begins their life together. The grand adventure. There truly isn't a better beginning than that. In my years I have been to many weddings and I have to say that my favorite moment of all is that moment when the Groom sees their partner for the first time. While most eyes are on the Bride, mine are always on the Groom. In that instant you see the most tremendous emotions. Love, adoration, gratitude, excitement, happiness and pure joy. It's in that moment where I feel most honoured to be doing what we do. In that instant, when a Groom sees his Bride for the first time, she has quite possibly never looked more beautiful than she does that day...and we get to be part of that incredible moment! We get to be a part of the look that will never be forgotten..and it's that very honour that keeps us excited for each new wedding season that begins...
